Dinner with Friends

Who we are

The Lake Havasu Yacht Club hosts an annual sailing regatta, powerboat events including poker runs, fishing derbies, and boat days at some of the best beaches, coves, and restaurants on the lake.

We participate in the annual Lake Havasu City Parade of Lights in December.

The club hosts themed parties for every major season and annual Casino Night, Western Night, Mardi Gras, Chili Cook Off, Sock Hop and our Burgie Girls (the ladies of the club) have begun hosting line dance lessons every Monday at noon.

With the help of our members, we support local youth activities and promote boating safety.

Reciprocal privileges are offered to members of a recognized yacht club or the Southern California Yachting Association (SCYA).

LHYC Past and Present Commodores

Red Beauty

By Marianne Nolte, May 29, 2025

Built in 1955, this Red Beauty is a classic Seaswirl gem, model P-14, owned by one of our most recent Lake Havasu Yacht Club (LHYC) members, Randy Greiwe.

This Red Beauty was Seaswirls first production fiberglass boat.  Previously they were a wood construction.  Her original motor, which is still stored by Randy, is a 35 hp rope start.  Randy switched to the currently mounted 40 hp back in 2024.  He laughed, “The rope pull was just too hard to start”.

I asked Randy how he came to acquire her.  Randy has some great stories. He said that back in the Seattle area, he had a boat dealership selling top brands like Bayliner, Maxum, SeaRay, Boston Whaler, and Nautique. Around 2010, he was on a tour at one of the boat factories.  They went up into a loft and he saw Red Beauty under a drop cloth cover.  He said to the fella he was with, “Hey I think that’s a P-14!”  and they snuck over to get a closer look. Years before, the factory had put Red Beauty up in the loft and she had long been forgotten. Randy wanted her and spoke with the national sales manager.  The sales manager sent her out to Randy for an undisclosed price.

Check out this article from Seaswirl from their 40th anniversary in 1995.  Red Beauty was pictured at her debut at Lake Havasu down by the London Bridge!

As you can imagine, Randy is a bit of a collector.  He has 3 other classics which are wooden boats.

  • 1952 Hollywood - Last year was the first time he put the Hollywood in the water.  The 65-hp motor from 1963 had sat for 20 years. She started right up and they went to Topac and back on only 11 gallons.  On the return, they ran out of fuel right in front of the gas pumps.

  • 1955ish Elgin - Cold rolled plywood construction.

  • 1957 Bayliner - This boat is currently undergoing restoration.

Back in 2017, Randy and his wife Suzy bought a place here in Havasu, but Suzy passed away the following year.  He still has the same house.

Randy joined the LHYC in April of 2025.  He was introduced to the club by past-commodore Fred Mohun.  At one of the April Friday night dinners, Fred reserved a table for 16!  He had a whole slew of folks joining from the Washington state area.

Whenever this group of friends visits Havasu, Randy said that when they go out in the evenings they often make reservations for 20+ diners!”

Like Randy, our other new club members, Doug Neslund and Cathy Bordeaux, also wanted to buy a home here at the lake.  Randy told them about a house on his street. They flew down and before seeing the whole property, they bought the house directly across the street from Randy.  Next time they are in town, be sure to stop by Doug and Cathy's table, they have a great story about their Havasu home purchase.

Friends Nick Jurlin and his wife Julie are also new club members. Nick is quite the fisherman who has worked the waters off Monterey California, and other west coast areas.  He too has some great stories to share!

I asked Randy if the boat had an official name.  Randy replied, “Well, we just call her the P-14”.  Personally, from now on, I’ll be referring to her as the Red Beauty.   With your help, I hope the name Red Beauty will catch on for Randy and his team.
